布莱恩（保罗·达诺 Paul Dano 饰）上过大学，家境殷实，还有两个中产哥哥，但他却选择做了高级床垫推销员，也毫无成家立业的打算，只是有一个古怪的人生目标——领养一个中国婴儿，但因他散漫的生活状态和条件，总是申请不到。一日，一个美丽的女孩海贝（佐伊·丹斯切尔 Zooey Deschanel 饰）走进了他的床垫店，还在试睡时候真的睡着了，两人就此相识，擦出火花。海贝是个标准富家女，她没有正经工作，也没有认真交过男朋友，和富豪老爸一起生活，心里留着风流老妈的阴影。布莱尔和海贝的交往在认真和逃避之间左右摇摆地进行起来，直到布莱恩的中国婴儿终于申请下来，已经决定离开他去巴黎学厨艺的海贝似乎也开始动摇……。纯洁的美津在圣诞日遇上吉冈，一见钟情。但她被验出患上麻疯，要送往山林疗养院，吉冈却在此刻离开了她。美津到了疗养院，发觉此地是处充满爱心的世外桃源。吉冈欲重续情缘，但美津宁愿留下来……。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
