1947年春，蒋匪对我山东、陕北根据地发动重点进攻，毛泽东（张克瑶 饰）运筹帷幄，作出战略撤出延安的决定，用中央机关“昆仑纵队”牵制胡宗南（王振江 饰）主力。彭德怀（雷飞 饰）打响蟠龙战役，生擒敌旅长，缴获颇丰。毛泽东审时度势，令山东陈、粟部打响莱芜战役、孟良崮战役，歼敌数万，重创了蒋军主力。国统区“反饥饿、反内战”呼声日渐高涨，蒋介石下令镇压，并令胡宗南务必歼灭“昆仑纵队”，胡的努力一次次落空。毛泽东主持召开的小河口会议为我军战略反攻奠定了理论基础，彭德怀在沙家店歼灭敌三十六师，刘邓大军挺进大别山，其他各野战军也都转入战略反攻。雪后的五台山上，毛泽东感慨地说：最多两年，我们就可饮马长江，直捣南京......。Trevor is 'between jobs'.
