The policeman asks for a return favor and the boys oblige, oblivious to the ill fate that...。故事发生在二十世纪三十年代。富家千金慕佩芸（叶全真 饰）出游遇险，被大学生叶耀华（谢祖武 饰）相救，暗生情愫的佩芸央爹爹慕天宏（李铁军 饰）将自己许配给耀华。但芸父要她嫁给门当户对的莫立群（王灿 饰），佩芸不允，阴险的莫立群差人在佩芸订婚当日制造车祸，殃及了搭车的邹平维老师一家人。心生怜悯的耀华时常看望顾照因车祸受伤的邹妻方茹涵（董璇 饰），被莫诬为二人有暧昩关系，不明真相的佩芸嫁给了莫立群。茹涵闻讯大惊，她拖着患重病的身体前往解释，不料途中病发身亡，其夫也以身殉情。耀华悲痛欲绝，他承担了抚养父母双亡的孤女筱蝶（陈文婷 饰）的责任。多年后，长大成人的筱蝶爱上了耀华，一直暗恋立群的采薇（战鹤文 饰）则唆使立群与佩芸离婚，又一场阴谋开始了......。
