An artist (Lon Chaney Jr) is blinded by a jealous assistant/model. His fiance's father generously offers his eyes for a sight restoring operation. there's only one hitch. It would be nice, but for the twin brothers Il-do and Yi-do, it's just a wishful thought. Born under a cursed fate due to their parents' original sin, one must die for the other to live. To avoid this, they have deliberately cut off contact. However, when Yi-do, who works for a gang, gets stabbed, Il-do somehow hears about it and rushes to don...。故事开始于上世纪五十年代末，上海支边青年冯志远（张嘉译 饰）告别了新婚妻子，来到宁夏腾格里沙漠的鸣沙中学。由于该地自然条件恶劣，许多支教的老师悄悄离开了，冯志远没有走，他一个人承担起四门课的教学任务。家境的贫困让学校三分之二的学生辍学在家，冯志远逐个登门做工作，使部分孩子回到了学校。一晃二十多年过去了，长期超负荷的教学令冯志远视力急剧下降。终于，在1985年的一天，正上课的冯志远瞬间暴盲，进入到一个黑暗的世界里。孙校长（夏庄伟 饰）痛心疾首，停止了他的工作，但他依然用盲文黑板继续给孩子们上课。四十二年过去了，年逾七十的冯志远最终告别了他心爱的讲台......。
